NOTICE: Retirement of SharePoint Alerts

Microsoft is retiring SharePoint Alerts in our tenant.

What does this mean to you?

If you are receiving alerts from SharePoint Lists or Libraries that look similar to this:

Going forward, you will see a message at the bottom of the alert that looks like:

The picture above reads, “Note: Your alert subscription will expire on 2026-01-09. To continue receiving alerts, please renew it via the settings page.”

  • If you want to renew the alert, click on the link and go to your settings page to renew.
  • Note that you can extend your alert by 30 days, and, at the end of 30 days, you can extend the alert again.
  • You can continue re-extending your alerts until July of 2026, when Microsoft will remove the ability to use Alerts.

IMPORTANT: The go-forward path for Alerts:

For future-state, Microsoft has created SharePoint Rules, similar to Outlook Rules, to replace Alerts.

SharePoint Rules are very easy to set up.

If you regularly depend on Alerts from SharePoint Lists and/or Libraries, please give SharePoint Rules a try!
