Now that you’ve set your goals for FY25, check out the new and improved Barry-Wehmiller University (BWU), offering more ways than ever before to find the right learning for you. Whether supporting you in achieving your FY25 goals or enhancing your ability to provide great leadership for those in your span of care, BWU offers a wide variety of learning opportunities. Read on for a Leaders-Only Preview of the new BWU Learning Center so you can sign up for training and become familiar with the new system before it is introduced to all team members on Jan. 29, 2025. 

Conveniently access BWU through Workday  

With BWU now part of Workday, you get instant access to learning opportunities in the same system you go to for benefits, time off, Performance Cycle activities and other leader and BW-related requests. To explore all that the new BWU has to offer, log into Workday and select “Learning” from the MENU at the upper left of the screen. 

Discover BWU’s multitude of features 

Once on the BWU Learning Center home page, select “Discover” to check out the Learning Catalog, browse learning topics or scroll to the most popular subjects. You can find out when and where BW’s foundational In-Person courses, Listen Like a Leader and Culture of Service, are scheduled. Or browse the current lineup of Live-Virtual webinars.  Use the filters on the lefthand side of the page or the Search bar below “Browse Learning Content” to help find what you need. 

Identify the leader behaviors to aspire to and the training to get you there

BWU’s home page also links you to your transcript by clicking on "My Learning", which shows the BWU training you’ve completed thus far. It’s also where you’ll find the handy BWU Learning Navigator, the only tool through which to identify the specific behaviors and actions to help you embody BW’s Leader Commitments. To see behaviors for your leader category, log in to the Learning Navigator and select “Behaviors”. From there, you can find learning to support your growth in a specific Commitment via the Learning Navigator or by using the BWU filtering and/or search functions. 

Embrace the “more than before” challenge

In late October, BW President Kyle Chapman issued a challenge to all BW leaders to “sign up for at least one Barry-Wehmiller University training during FY25 to help you grow in your ability to lead.”  Why stop at one? During FY24, only 1018 of BW’s 2900+ leaders participated in BWU training. If you’ve taken an In-Person class or Live-Virtual webinar during FY24, challenge yourself to increase your participation in FY25 and sign up for “more than before.” If you weren’t able to take a BWU training in 2024, make 2025 the year that you do. Let’s get more BW leaders taking more training than ever before!

More Tips for Truly Human Leaders

TO DO:

Make a commitment to staying on top of your Workday inbox during 2025. As a BW leader, it is your responsibility to address any items in your inbox about those in your span of care. In FY2024, there were 2433 overdue Workday inbox actions. This caused delays in the completion of processes, such as job changes, hires and compensations changes. Make a commitment to complete ALL Workday actions in a timely manner to avoid negative team member impacts and ensure accurate reporting.

TO SHARE:

As a leader, your role calls you to help inform those in your span of care about what’s happening in the business. The recent BW State of the Business Roundtable provided an engaging and informative overview of FY24 with a look at FY25 and other important initiatives. Have you shared it with your team? And, if they don’t normally have access to a computer at work, watch it with them during a meeting. The more they know, the more they’ll feel connected to your team goals, your business’ goals and BW’s goals and overall vision.
