Platform IT Leader/Director,
As another important step in securing our corporate network and data, we are working on a project (BW Wireless Access Hardening project) to no longer allow personal devices to use the BW_Enterprise wireless network, and instead use Guest Wi-Fi.
To begin this project, we must identify all wireless printers, vendor laptops, vending machines, tablets, scanners, BW-provided phones, and handheld devices that are connecting to BW_Enterprise in your facilities.
This action is to ensure as little frustration as possible when we take steps to lock down the number and types of non-workstation devices that can access the BW_Enterprise network organization wide. In other words, we are attempting to mitigate the problems that could arise from non-workstation devices being kicked out of the BW network when this lockdown takes place.
ACTIONS:
- From each of you, we ask that you assign a resource responsible for each location (or group of locations), preferably from your IT team, who is very familiar with the non-workstation devices and has access to view which devices are connecting to the BW_Enterprise Wireless network being used at your facility.
- Please send Carlos Silva (project manager) the name(s) of your assigned resource(s) by Tuesday, March 17.
- That resource will be responsible for the following (which is described in this email that they will receive):
- Provide a report of all non-workstation devices connected to BW_Enterprise using the attached Excel spreadsheet.
- Make necessary changes to the non-workstation devices that connect to BW_Enterprise (instructions provided), which will ultimately allow a full inventory to be captured.
- Track changes as they occur and report back to the project team.
- If available, we will invite these resources to our weekly calls to provide updates and so we can provide ongoing support in filling out and providing tracking documentation.
- The due date for the above is April 30, 2026.
Anticipated questions and answers:
- What will happen if the steps to change settings to true MAC are not completed? Devices that do not have these changes made by the time we begin our BW Wireless Access Hardening project will be removed from the BW_Enterprise Wi-Fi.
- How often will users have to log into guest Wi-Fi? The timeout on the BW Guest Wi-Fi has been increased to about 30 days from your last login.
If you have any questions about the information in this email, please contact email these three members of project team:
Thank you!
